Hey, I'm Ana
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A couple of years back I moved here with my family, and what began as a short-term assignment gradually became a whole new chapter living abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn't in the long-range plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the fly. But gradually routines fell into place. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built Spruce Velvet Harbor
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Real-world insights from life in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever there is a meaningful change
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Portugal continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I will keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Ana
